Listing policy and removal commitment
If you run a business listed here and you did not ask to be, this page is written for you. It says what we claim, what we do not claim, and how to be gone.

If you did not ask to be here
You probably did not. Most businesses on this site were listed from information they had already published, without being asked first. That is a real thing to do to somebody, and this page is the document that says what we did, what we are claiming, and how to undo it.
If you want your listing gone, email us and it comes down. No questions, no retention offer, no form to fill in, and no conditions. The rest of this page is for anyone who wants to know how it works first.
What this site is
Pilebase is a directory of landscape supply yards and nurseries, with an ordering path attached for the businesses that want one. A person searching for mulch or gravel or a shrub sees which businesses near them carry it, what those businesses have published about it, and how to reach them.
Listing is free. No business has ever paid to be listed and no business can pay for position. The only money that exists anywhere in this business is a fee of 2% (2.5% on Complete) on an order placed and paid through Pilebase checkout, which only a business that has claimed its listing and chosen to receive orders can ever be charged.
How a listing is built
Every fact on a listing came from somewhere public, and we can tell you where.
- Directory facts (business name, address, phone number, website, hours, what the business carries, the areas it says it delivers to) come from the business's own website and from public directory records. A person checked each one.
- Prices appear only where the business published them itself, or told us directly. Every price carries the date we confirmed it and a link to the page it came from.
- We copy only the material name, the unit, and the price. Never a photograph, never a description, never a page layout.
- Retail prices only. Where a business publishes a wholesale or contractor sheet, we record it internally and keep it out of public view.
- Nothing comes from behind a login. Only pages any member of the public can reach.
How our reader behaves
When we read a business's own published pages, an automated reader does it, and it follows rules that do not bend.
- It identifies itself.
Pilebase/1.0 (+https://pilebase.io/listings; info@pilebase.io). That address reaches a person. - It honours robots.txt. If a site's robots file tells our reader not to read a page, it does not read it, and the refusal is recorded. If the robots file cannot be fetched at all, the page is treated as blocked. "We could not check" never means "we went ahead anyway".
- It reads at most once a week per page, with seconds between requests, so it is never a load on anybody's server.
- Every read is logged, with the date and the outcome.
- It never logs in, never submits a form, and never follows a redirect off the business's own site.
What we claim about your business
Exactly this, and it is a short list:
- That your business exists, at the address and phone number you published.
- That it carries the categories of material you said it carries.
- Where you published prices, that those were your published prices on the date shown, with a link to your own page.
- That a buyer can reach you.
What we do not claim, and this is the important part
We do not claim any of the following, anywhere on this site:
- We are not affiliated with your business.
- We are not partners with your business.
- Your business does not endorse, sponsor or approve Pilebase.
- Your business has not authorised us to do anything on its behalf.
- We are not your agent and we do not act for you.
- We do not represent you to buyers, and we do not speak for you.
An unclaimed listing carries that in plain words on the page itself, not only here.
And one more, which is the difference between this site and the ones that get sued.
We do not sell anything on your behalf. There is no Pilebase voucher, gift card, pass, credit or coupon for your business. Nothing exists that a buyer can buy from us and then present to you expecting you to honour it. A buyer who wants to spend money at your business does so with your business, at your prices, on your terms.
What happens when a buyer orders from an unclaimed listing
Nothing is committed on your behalf. A buyer's order is a request, it is not confirmed by us, and until your business says yes it is not an order at all.
Today, an order or a question aimed at a business that has not claimed its listing goes to a person here, not to you. We do not text you. We do not call you. We do not email your published address. Those channels exist in the software and are deliberately switched off, and they stay off until we can say clearly what turning them on would mean for you.
If we ever do start emailing an unclaimed business, the message will say who we are, why it arrived, and how to stop it, and stopping it will be one reply.
Correcting something
If a fact about your business is wrong, tell us and we will fix it.
- Email us, or use the form on the how these listings are built page.
- We act as soon as we see it, and usually the same day. Our commitment is within two business days, and that is the outer number, not the normal one.
- We do not require proof that you own the business to correct a fact about it. Asking a business owner to prove who they are before we will stop publishing something wrong about them is backwards.
- If the correction is a price, we will normally ask where it is published, so the new number carries a source the way the old one did. If you would rather we simply removed the price, we will do that instead, immediately.
Removal
Ask, and your listing comes down. Within one business day, and normally within hours.
- Email us and say you want the listing removed. One sentence is enough.
- No questions asked. No conditions. No offer to keep it up in return for anything.
- We do not require proof of ownership. If a request looks like it might be somebody interfering with a competitor's listing, we will remove the listing first and ask afterwards. Being wrongly removed costs a business far less than being wrongly listed.
- It stays down. Removal is not a pause. A removed business is excluded from the listings, from the comparison pages, from the guides, from the plant lists and from the sitemap, and it is not re listed by a later research pass.
- How it works technically, so you can see why it is fast: a removal is one line in a list that sits apart from the research records, and three separate things read it. The site build excludes the business. The search pages filter it out as they load, so it disappears before any rebuild. And the server's own catalogue applies it too, so an order cannot be placed against a removed business even by an old link. Taking a business out is one line, not a rebuild of anything.
We will also, on request: remove a single price rather than the whole listing, remove a photograph, remove the click through to your website, or leave the listing and remove the ordering path. You do not have to take an all or nothing option.
Photographs
Three sources, three rules.
- Photographs you upload through your own portal are yours, and they publish because you put them there.
- Photographs on your website are your copyright. We may hold a pointer to one, and we do not publish it unless you have claimed your listing or told us yes.
- Category photographs, the ones that illustrate what mulch looks like rather than what your mulch looks like, are ours, and they are never presented as your stock.
Copyright complaints have their own route: see our DMCA notice.
Claiming your listing
If you would rather run the listing than remove it, you can claim it. It is free.
Verification goes to a contact point your own business published, not to anything a claimant types in. Once you have claimed it you control your prices, your description, your photographs and how orders reach you, and you can stop receiving orders at any time without losing the listing.
Claiming is not required for anything on this page. Removal does not depend on claiming first.
If you would rather have a lawyer write to us
That is fine, and the address below reaches a person either way. But it is worth knowing that the answer to "take our listing down" is yes, immediately, and always has been. You do not need to spend money to get it.
